Photovoltaic

The term Photovoltaic consists of the components Photos - the greece word for light - and Volta - due to Allessandro Volta (1745-1825), a pioneer of electro-technology.

Photovoltaics is the direct transformation from radiation energy, primarily solar power into electricity by solar cells. A solar cell consists of semiconductor materials (e.g. silicon, germanium, etc.), which absorb sunlight and convert it directly to current.

The production of solar cells is a fastidious process, which makes very complex demands regarding the equipment technology.
